The Pakistani entertainment industry has taken the population by storm. It produces so many dramas, all with unique elements and characters, plots and story lines with beautiful instrumental music and charismatic singers. I genuinely enjoy watching them because they reflect our people and talent. It shows Pakistan in a different light, even if the message they sometimes convey is as real as Pakistan’s problems. However, I firmly believe entertainment and media is cathartic to our people who crave a touch of art in their lives.
Here are three Pakistani dramas that I would love to watch again and again…
This was by far my favorite Pakistani drama, and I think the reasons are obvious. Fawad and Mahira had undeniable chemistry, beauty and a sincerity to their roles that few can master. It was not only the tragic story line of the drama that attracted the audience, but the cast and the music, cinematography and direction was also unparalleled.
Fawad and Mahira started off as starstruck lovers, to pained strangers, to two people meeting halfway in the hopes of raising their daughter even when disaster struck their marriage. Elements of love both requited and unrequited, purity, evil and betrayal were well represented. The drama, therefore, deserves the fame and awards it received. I truly became a fan of Pakistani dramas after watching this. It made me realize we have so much untapped potential to create huge hits. Everything in the drama was perfectly executed.
After all, who can deny the love that existed between them?
Zindagi Gulzar Hai
You might say I’m biased about Fawad Khan and I love everything he does. Even though you’re right, this drama isn’t only about that. The strong-headed and bold character played by Sanam Saeed impressed me to a greater extent. It really sat well with the female audience seeing such an empowering figure, and I believe the Pakistani cinema industry really needs more of that. Although their relationship had many ups and downs, it represents the importance of being honest and earnest with one another, and how love trumps everything. I would love to see these two acting together as they are both very strong actors, amazing at what they do. I believe the story line was different than most plots laid out by Pakistani dramas, and it was refreshing seeing such unique characters.
Oh, the waterworks!
This was an emotional roller coaster for me. A story depicting love, hatred, enmity, friendship and the lengths one would go to in the name of love. It depicts unrequited love and the pain which one goes through so aptly. We see the longing in our character’s hearts so well, as played by Hamza Ali Abbasi and Aiza Khan. Although I do wish she’d realized earlier that she really is in love with him. But oh well, the whole point of dramas is to make the viewer’s heart sink, isn’t it?
The drama Pyaray Afzal had an exclusive script, direction, music and dialogue. It also received a huge response on social media due to its cast.
