You’ve probably hopped over here, hoping to find me singing a song to you but alas, that is not what I have in store for you today! I do, though, have a wonderful story to share. Oh, not just wonderful, but true to the core too. A few days back, my friend Alia came to me, telling me what a bad influence Natalia is and how her company is notorious for being so corrupt. Of course none of that is true. Natalia is such a sweetheart. Now yesterday at a party, I, very unsurprisingly noticed Alia hanging out with Natalia, all smiles and rainbows. Classy, no?
So many of us do that. We insult the same people we share our lunch with. Now, there is a reason I am telling you this. You see this is the exact way we treat good old social media. We use it but we still abuse it. An obvious reality! Our parents say, ‘Facebook is totally messing up with our grades’, and are using that same Facebook for connecting with their buddies. Let me polish your brains a bit by presenting to you some reasons why, if used within boundaries, social media is doing more good than harm. Even Alia needs to be reminded why Natalia is not as bad as she claims her to be.
THANKS TO SOCIAL MEDIA THE INTROVERTS CAN BE SOCIAL TOO
The indoor worms who find themselves an anxious mess while trying to say hi to the new person they want to befriend, have benefitted from social media the most. Gone are the upsetting days when your parents would fret over you not having a social life! Gone are the dark ages. Hello Facebook!
BRINGS US TOGETHER; NO DISTANCE IS UNCONQUERABLE!
I’d personally like to thank Facebook and Goodreads for bringing my friends from around the world to me, our conversations are only a click away. Had it not been for Goodreads, I wouldn’t have been able to fraternize with bookworms around the globe; had it not been for Facebook, me and my friend from previous school would have had the strings connecting our hearts cut off.
GIVES A VOICE TO THE YOUTH
You want to be heard without having to scream your lungs out? Tweet. Your opinion is just a tweet away from being shared. Facebook, twitter, and any social network you are fond of, is a means of spreading the word.
PROMOTES THE GOOD THINGS IN LIFE
Social media is like an angel for all the writers, artists, musicians and singers out there. From YouTube to tumblr, from instagram to twitter, happiness is just a click away. Your work can gain millions of followers and had it not been for social media, talent would have had to struggle a lot.
Thus, if you use it sensibly without tagging 42 others, without bugging people and without pretending you were casually led to creepy stuff, social media is like a piñata full of candies and confetti.
Plus point: You can stalk that cute boy in a not-so-creepy way. Oops, don’t blame me, I didn’t say that!
