Hey, you! Yes, you, the one watching this.
Are you a diffident, insecure girl who doesn’t know the value of her own skin color and wants to whiten it? Are you emotionally impressionable? Did you look at Preet today and think – wow, her skin is so fair and that must be the reason she’s so popular! Did you look at Maha and think, the reason her relationship is so strong is because her skin color is on point? Is your mother always telling you not to go out in the sun because you’ll get a tan?
If so, this is the ad for you.
We specialize in attacking vulnerable mindsets into buying our product because we are rigid in our old-school, ‘log-kya-kahengay’ belief. Our company refuses to move out from under a rock because we still believe that a girl’s skin color determines her life chances. And even if we don’t, we’ll damn well make sure you do, because we really need your money!
We’re willing to shame you, hurt you, put you down, and embarrass you for being born a certain way, just for Rs. 250 a bottle! And you know we thrive on the spirits of those archaic, shallow and most of all, completely wrong men and women who really just want a girls skin to glow like she was spat by the moon’s elixir.
We’re so sorry you got sad watching our advertisement! (Actually, we’re not, because if you got sad, that probably means you have a darker complexion; you’re more likely to buy our product now).
You know what we really hate? Those bold, confident women who absolutely love the way they look. Gah! They’re so bad for the economy! They don’t need any cosmetic product because they believe they are beautiful. And while we grudgingly admit that attitude really is everything that is important in life, we still won’t stop telling you that being fair is what will get you a boyfriend later on in life – and yes, we’ll also make it sound like finding love is the most important thing in a girl’s life.
To be very honest, we all believe our industry should be sued and shut down. We know the message we’re sending is far from the truth. But as long as this mindset of fair conquering dark exists, we do. As long as girls are told their appearances are the most important thing in life, we have a strong future. (Can’t say much about those girls, though.)
So, are you convinced yet?
