I am about to upgrade my status. No I am not talking about a typical Facebook post of ‘single to married’. Instead, I am talking about the transition from a teenager to a young adult. I graduated several years back. I am married with two kids. In other words, I am highlighting the oh-so-necessary milestones of life. Despite my aging reality, as soon as I switch on the television, I see the same stars who wake up with a perfect brow and highlighted coral cheeks. Their saree is without a crease and they look flawless. Although I see my hair turn grey, these actors are forever young. I don’t need to watch every episode of such plays, because even after 10 years, I see their family getting bigger, with clichéd climax of dead returning from the much restrictive land. I decide, I will never go back to these dramas because I want to watch something that can take away my stress by keeping reality intact. And that is why the Pakistani drama industry wins.
Lux Style Awards 2017 is round the corner. As per the nominations, I believe the award for…
Best TV Play should go to Udaari
It has to be Udaari. Yes, we die for romance because it gives us an elated feeling. The fascination involved with actors falling in love and being each other’s happily after has to pause. With all other dramas having a predictable ending, Udaari wins. With a grave concept that brings out the harsh reality of the society, the play explicitly demonstrates gender roles and the quest of power. Where families hesitate to discuss issues of harassment and security, Udaari serves the purpose of educating us. The drama hence, introduces us to the power of common man.
Best TV actor should go to Ahsan Khan
The soft-spoken, amiable Ahsan Khan took an unexpected dark role of Imtiaz Sheikh; a child molester. It is easier to be kind. It is tranquil to be romantic. The gut-wrenching role, however, coherently portrays the evil stereotypical image of masculine power. Ahsan Khan, you aced it!
Best TV actress should go to Saba Qamar for Besharam
The media industry has a shady image in front of many. To break the status quo, Saba Qamar impeccably communicates the emotions and the need of every female to live a life of respect. Saba Qamar has always been an extraordinary star where Besharam, presented a perfect opportunity to show fans her power of expression.
Best Original Sound Track should go to Quratulain Baloch for Mann Mayal
Yes, you guessed it right. The award goes to Quratulain Baloch for Mann Mayal. The voice singing Tere Naal Kyun Laayian Ankhian has depth that takes one to dramatic reality of life revolving around affection and heartbreak. The voice demonstrates emotional attachment, connectivity and the pain associated with love. QB deserves this one with a melody that phenomenally shows limitless and unconditional love! *bows*
