With numerous jokes and funny text message searches, we can’t stop laughing on every random meme we come across. And to take a break from the monotonous depressing routine, we often ignore how cast, religion and gender is made fun of.
In this realm, the most laughed upon jokes revolve around the Pathan community and we take pride in replacing the previously famous Sardar jokes with a Pathan.
A Pathan belongs to the Pashtun community that has its own language and practices. Despite the perfect Pashtun cuisine and good looking individuals we drool over, a Pathan is often considered a person with a low IQ level; a reason to be laughed upon. Really? Who are we to mock someone when we lack skills that others are capable of? Nobody is perfect. Pathans might mispronounce gender associations but so does our vilayti cousin with a Canadian accent who left Pakistan 12 years ago!
If you still disagree what is being said, did you not cheer for our famous Pakistani cricketers like Shahid Khan Afridi, Younis Khan and Umar Gul?
And what about our talented actors like Marina Khan and Nadia Khan?
Representing Pakistan at a global level, can these Pathans deserve to be called dumb? Think again. Is that what we want to teach others especially our children by promoting racism and provoking resentment against this community? Certainly No. For this reason, next time if you receive the following:
Sardar Laughing behind Pathan at ATM Machine,
Ha ha I have seen your password,
Pathan: What is it?
Sardar: It is 4 stars (* * * *)
Pathan: Ha haa ha! You are wrong, it’s 2710…..
