Pakistan turns 70 today. The two figured number looks huge. It reflects immense effort and struggle towards a separate nation, a separate identity. Every year, the Independence Day on 14th August is celebrated with great enthusiasm and zeal. With fire crackers, loud music and decorative lights, every corner speaks freedom, hard work and sacrifice. It would however, be more beneficial if this holiday is not taken as a mere chance of entertainment and enjoyment. The concept of freedom is deep and the purpose of a separate nation is grave. However, instead of dwelling into a debate, it is also important to see how this day is celebrated.
While clothing brands are showing a great price reduction, restaurants are also offering Azaadi deals to its customers. With flags tied tightly to motorcycle mirrors, and with children getting the Pakistani flag painted on their faces, every individual has his own unique way of celebrating the day. Similarly, Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) celebrated the 70th independence day by having an ‘ In-Flight Jam’. The airline increased the par of celebration. PIA featured the much loved and hyped Momina Mustehsan; the pretty lady with an amazingly melodious voice! Along with Haroon and Sharoon, this independence day celebration was enjoyed and cheered by the passengers travelling from Karachi to Islamabad. PIA made it possible for celebrations to take place between the skies strengthening patriotism to a greater extent.
No matter how many years pass by, the history of our nation is intact; it continues to give the message of struggle and sacrifice. The independence day is a reminder of the efforts put in for freedom indicating the need to abide by the same purpose and zeal. It is however, the duty of every individual to protect its country from polluting thoughts and ideas that destroy its purpose. Join your hands together and promise to work for a better Pakistan.
Happy Independence Day!
